The Keller Funnel™ is a soft, sterile device made of nylon that surgeons use to deliver silicone gel implants easily in to the breast pocket during an augmentation or reconstruction procedure. The Funnel was introduced to surgeons in 2009, shortly after silicone gels were FDA-approved and re-entered the U.S. market. Women and their surgeons have increasingly selected silicone gels for their natural look and feel, and today, according to the annual report provided by the American Society of Plastic Surgery, more silicone gels procedures are performed than saline.
The Funnel allows surgeons to make smaller incisions, similar to those used in saline implant procedures. Depending on a woman’s anatomy, the delivery tool also gives doctors the ability to place the incision in a variety of locations including: periareolar (around the nipple), inframammary (under the breast fold) and transaxial (under the arm).
